EVENTS POLICY

Part of our mission is to provide a space to support community organizing along the lines of the philosophy outlined in our literature. Uses of this space include: educational free skool skill-share classes, workshops, meetings, events, and fundraisers

The Rhizome Collective is not responsible for promotions or any event staffing. The Residential Building and the Shop will be locked and off-limits no exceptions.

Proposals

All events need to be proposed, sponsored, and approved. We recommend that you propose your events a month or more in advance to allow adequate time to both present at Collective meeting (every 2 weeks) and then promote. If there is an emergency event, a proposal may be emailed to proposals [at] rhizomecollective.org. To make a proposal, fill out the proposed event form and either bring it to our meeting (every other Tuesday at 8pm) or email it to proposals@rhizomecollective.org.

Sponsors: All events must have a Rhizome sponsor. If you do not personally know someone to ask, you can ask for a sponsor when you present your proposal.

Cost of using the space

  • Free educational classes, workshops, events, and community organizational meetings: free (We appreciate if you will make an announcement at your event asking for donations for Rhizome.)
  • Sliding-scale workshops: 20%
  • Benefit Fundraisers: $100 or 1/3 of door. To be considered a benefit, a significant amount of the profit must be going to support a group/ program whose work benefits the greater community.
  • Parties: Negotiable

Some Basics

  • There is no smoking on the property- this includes outside in the courtyard
  • All dogs must be leashed
  • Hours: Events must end by midnight on weeknights and 2am on weekend nights
  • Equipment - $100 deposit for use of our PA system

Responsibilities of the Organization

  • Promotion
  • Set-up of the back warehouse for the event
  • Working the door
  • Security throughout the entire event: no fights, no urinating in the courtyard, no people or dogs in the gardens, residential building, shop, no lingering loudly or drinking on Allen St. - i.e. making sure our animals, plants, neighbors, and space are respected. People should be stationed throughout the grounds the entire event. There is no smoking inside buildings or in courtyard and dogs must be leashed.
  • Deposit: $100 for broken/stolen items and damages
  • Alcohol: It is illegal to sell alcohol. Therefore it needs to be either: Free or.... redeemable for tickets sold
    • A volunteer needs to dispense it, checking IDs. People need to be of age!
    • Alcohol must be consumed responsibly! Do not be afraid to cut people off! (Responsible drinking and the intensity of security are directly related.)
    • Make sure there is at least water for non-drinkers.
    • People should not drive home drunk- have volunteers monitoring people leaving.
    • We encourage alcohol-free events.
  • Clean-up must be done by noon the next day, or in-time for the next event, whichever is sooner. Your sponsor will go through the clean-up checklist before you leave. Make sure your volunteers understand they will be needed after the event too!
